After a slew of EPs, a demo, and a split, Alabama wardogs WRITHING SHADOWS are finally ready to unleash the full assault.
Their eponymous debut full-length WRITHING SHADOWS will be available on CD/Cassette Tape on May 13th, 2022 via Gurgling Gore (North America) and Dawnbreed Records (Europe).

Alabama old school death metal mob Writhing Shadows return from the murk with their debut full length.
Storming in with chunky riffs atop menacing drums, the vitriolic spew of pure rotten death metal carnage is ferocious from the first seconds. Savage vocals contain just as much aggression as the instruments while the mix is clear, allowing the pounding music to be heard in all of its glory. Obviously the band borrow some aesthetic direction from the legendary Bolt Thrower, while not exactly staying in the lane of worship material. Taking some cues from the likes of Undergang and even some death-doom to add more gloominess to their mid-tempo assault, there is plenty to keep you gripped. On the other side of things, there are plenty of moments of hellish grinding barbarity to inject adrenaline into the meat-hook riffs that split craniums with ease. The bass guitar has that really nice loose sound to it that doesn’t just fall behind the guitars and the drums are snappy enough to break through too. Vocally, the spacing works excellently to add more fire to the songs while giving us enough respite to enjoy the tight musicianship and hooks too. Writhing Shadows really seem to have fine-tuned their craft.
From the sheer heaviness of the first few tracks, we see some atmospheric growth on the likes of “Carcass of a Godbeast” which is a lumbering titan of pure sonic cruelty. Following it is by far the most Bolt Thrower sounding track “Born of Dying Stars” which is absolutely killer, this diversity plays to the bands strength showing their clear influences are worn on their sleeves proudly while they don’t accidentally fall into the category of tribute band either. Into its closing moments the record holds all of the built up intensity, which poses less of a challenge on an album under 30 minutes which I feel was a wise choice by the band. They come in, rip things up and leave without getting tiresome or too repetitive. Excellent songwriting, planning and direction (not to mention the totally wicked cover art) plus super tight musical execution shows Writhing Shadows at their very finest so far. Lovers of old school death metal, this is a no brainer, you will adore this slab of concrete riff-craft.
Definitely the bands strongest material to date. Pure dismembering death metal filth that definitely takes its primary inspiration from the 90s UK bands, while adding enough contemporary grit to keep things refreshing. A bludgeoning slab of fetid and morbid brutality.
